18-883-K4   Efficiency and Demand Side Management in Smartgrids

Location: Africa

Units: 6

Semester Offered: Spring

Course description

This course will cover all the details pertaining to increasing efficiency in power networks and demand side management techniques. Different Smartgrid set ups, with different sets of generators and loads, will be investigated. Different DSM schemes will be applied and analyzed. Upon completing this course students will be able to devise DSM schemes for a given smartgrid, which may not be operating under traditional operation principles, e.g. off-grid microgrids.

Learning objectives

Load Management System Using Intelligent Monitoring and Control System for Commercial and Industrial Sectors,  Energy Efficient Mobility Management , Tools and Solution for Energy Management, High Efficiency Mix Energy System Design with Low Carbon Footprint for Wide-Open Workshops, Energy Measurement Techniques for Energy Efficiency Programs,  The Reliability Design and Its Direct Effect on the Energy Efficiency, Energy Efficiency in the ICT - Profiling Power Consumption, Energy Efficiency in Cooperative Wireless Sensor Networks

Outcomes

After completing this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand efficiency concepts better
  • Analyze different grids for their efficiency
  • Talk about different Demand Side Management Techniques
  • Match DSM techniques with suitable grid set-ups
